During work with the startup of a production line in Italy this week, there where problems with disturbances on a pulse sensor. By using the Indu-Sol tool EMCheck® MWMZ II we quickly located and resolved the problem. The problem was that the pulse sensor cable screen was not correctly connected to the equipotential bonding system at both ends. The problem was at the far end near the pulse sensor. Remember, all shielded cables must be connected to the equipotential bonding system at each end. MWMZ II is the perfect tool to localize these kinds of problems in Motor cables, Communication cables or any other shielded cable. We always bring this tool with us to any startup in order to simplify our job.

Just relying on gut feeling, or making intuitive judgements about the quality of existing shielding and earthing measures is rarely a good idea. The only way to ensure good equipotential bonding is proof by measurement. The mesh resistance measuring clamp EMCheck® MWMZ II is the right tool for this purpose. In this way, you meet the requirements of DIN EN 50310, which is cited in the new guideline “Functional potential equalization and shielding of PROFIBUS and PROFINET” – from the World Association PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI).
